For a long time, I have wanted to partner with my friends in Cumberland Gap, Tennessee to host a space where writers could gather, slow down, and create. This autumn, that dream is coming together in a place that I know you will find incredibly beautiful and inspiring.
From Wednesday, November 4th through Friday, November 6th, 2026, I will be hosting the Cumberland Gap Writing Intensive: A Mixed-Genre Generative Workshop. This midweek retreat is designed around the art of paying attention.
This event wouldn’t be possible without the incredible generosity of my friends in the beautiful town of Cumberland Gap. From writing beside Gap Creek to gathering around the table for our included Thursday night group dinner, this workshop is a true community effort.

Join author and editor Denton Loving for a generative workshop designed to awaken your creative focus.
Every landscape holds layers of history and natural wonder, waiting for a writer to look closely enough to discover them. Nestled at the foot of the majestic Cumberland Mountains, this workshop focuses on using powers of observation and imagination to build brand-new work from the ground up. We will read together and learn techniques to translate the physical world onto the page, while also plumbing the depths of our inner thoughts.
Beginners are warmly welcome. Whether you write every day or have never attempted to write a poem or story before, this workshop offers a nurturing environment to jumpstart your creativity.
Registration Fee: $225 per participant before October 15, 2026; $250 per participant after October 15, 2026
*Registration includes Thursday evening dinner.
