Write with Me

Hello! I’m sending this quick message to let you know about a few opportunities to write with me this spring and summer.

The first is coming up next week. I’ll be offering an online workshop through EastOver Press, focusing on place-based poetry. This is a variation of my most popular, most requested craft workshop. It’s called There’s a Road in this Poem, a title I borrowed from one of my favorite poems by Jennifer Stewart Miller. Her poem’s actual title is, This Poem Has a Highway in It, and you can read it or listen to Jennifer read it here. We’ll take a closer look at it together in our workshop, and we’ll read other poems that are driven by a strong sense of place as we identify some ways we can build a sense of place in our own writing.

This workshop is entirely virtual. It will take place on Wednesday, April 15, 2026 at 6:30 p.m. EST. There’s a $25 fee, and you need to register in advance through EastOver Press.

From May 9th through May 16th, I’ll be leading a poetry workshop at the Longleaf Writers Conference & Retreat. Longleaf was created and is still organized by Matt Bondurant and Seth Brady Tucker, and the whole weeklong workshop takes place at Greyton Beach, Florida. Like, literally on the beach! I’ve been wanting to be part of Longleaf for years, and I’m so excited to be invited to lead a workshop this year. There are a limited number of spaces left, and if you’re interested in hanging out in white sand, talking about writing, you should register right away.

From August 31st to September 4th, I’ll be returning as a faculty member at Table Rock Writers Workshop. Georgann Eubanks and Donna Campbell organize this amazingly supportive community of writers and musicians. TRWW originated out of the Duke University Writers Workshop, which means that the workshop program has been around in some form for over 30 years. For the last several years, their annual week-long program has been held at beautiful Wildacres Retreat in Little Switzerland, North Carolina, just north of Asheville in the western part of the state. Space at the workshop is limited by the relatively small number of beds on the Wildacres campus, but registration is still open, and as of this writing, there are some spaces left in my poetry workshop.

Whether you’re a beach person, a mountain person, or a homebody, there’s an option for everyone. And I’d love to see you at any or all of these great workshops. If you have questions, feel free to reach out to me, or contact EastOver, Longleaf, or Table Rock directly.

In case you missed it… I’ve recently shared some poems I especially love by Annie Woodford and Stephanie Niu. And I published my conversation with Rachel Miranda about her debut novel, Broken Chocolate.
